President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame, yesterday, joined over 500 residents of Ndera Sector in Gasabo District in the monthly communal work, Umuganda.
Accompanied by several ministers and senior government officials, both President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame folded their sleeves to partake in improving the road connecting Ndera, Gikomero and Rusororo sectors.
In his speech after the event, Kagame commended the impact of community work on the development of Rwanda.
“You have made working together to move our country forward part of our culture. Rwandans have worked hard for the development of their country, and the fruits of their labour are everywhere to be seen.”
President Kagame challenged residents never to settle for less:
“What we have accomplished is commendable but we must raise our expectations. We cannot and we will not be satisfied until development has reached every Rwandan. We know what is right for us, why should we expect others to do it for us?”
Kagame gave the residents something to smile about when he told them that the government planned to tarmac the main road in the sector.
“We have plans to tarmac this road in the near future so that it can bring economic development to Ndera. The most important thing, however, is that we continue to work hard and be proud of what each one of us can contribute to the country’s development. We can only achieve a better life for every Rwandan if we work to move each other forward, not to hold each other back.”
