President Paul Kagame will today deliver a keynote address at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), as part of the events the centre has organised to mark its 50th anniversary.
Taking place in Trieste, the four day event which will attract more than 250 participants will be a celebration of 50 years of success in international scientific cooperation and the promotion of scientific excellence in the developing world, according to a statement from the President’s office.
Other dignitaries at the anniversary celebrations will include Prince El Hassan bin Talal of Jordan, Nobel Laureates David Gross and Carlo Rubbia as well as the Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Ansar Parvez.
Founded in 1964 by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, ICTP seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers.
ICTP is scheduled to open its East African regional Centre of Excellence in Rwanda, the statement said.
The centre will offer education, training and research at postgraduate level in physics and mathematics as well as organize workshops for scientists in the region.
