This happened yesterday in a primary school located in Karongi district, Ruganda sector in Nyamugwagwa cell where students were in class and a thunder stroke into them killing five. The incident was due to heavy rains dominated by strong lightening and thunders all over Karongi district.
The surviving students were taken to Kirinda Hospital to receive medical care as they have been psychologically shaken by the incident.
The evacuation of the traumatized and the injured was hardly carried out as the area has poor transport infrastructures and few cars in the neighborhood.
The astonishing reality is that the fact that the school is equipped with a lightning rod for its protection.
The thunders have also happened in other areas of the Karongi district, killing a young boy and two other mature people in Rwankuba sector.
Rwandan meteorologists have warned decision makers in particular and all inhabitants in general to take preventive measures against the forthcoming El Nino’ destructive effects such as floods, land slides, thunderstorms, etc.
The alarm was provided as to reduce the loss of human, animal and material beings resulting from the above-mentioned disasters soon to befall upon Rwandans, experts say.
The El Nino phenomenon is caused by warming winds from the Pacific Ocean breezing towards the coastal areas of East Africa causing a heaving rainy atmosphere in the neighboring relief of Rwanda.
The coming October will be characterized by unprecedented heavy winds and rains to cause devastating natural calamities, meteorologists warned.
