Bastille Day, celebrated on July 14, is special one for the French. In this day in 1789, the French revolution that overthrew the Royal rulers began.
The day was marked in Kenya in Nairobi and Mombasa. In Mombasa, the day was celebrated last Sunday at the Thalassa restaurant with French citizens in Kenya and their friends turning up in large numbers. The event was led by Mombasa France Consul Mohammed Ramazani.
The main event, however, was held in Nairobi with French ambassador Etienne Du Poncins hosting a colourful event at his Kabarnet Gardens residence. The event was attended by many French nationals in Kenya.
There was also a large showing from the friends of France including guest of honour Senator Judith Sijeny and her colleague in the Senate Zipporah Kittony.
