166 female police agents have started intensive courses intended to increase their skills and knowledge about UN monitored peace keeping missions around the world. Those female police agents will pass an assessment as to find out the ones that be sent in different UN Peacekeeping missions. The selection will take place two weeks ahead.
Throughout these courses they will be trained by experts allocated by the UN who will reinforce their knowledge and skills in peacekeeping activities.
The D/IGP Juvenal told UM– USEKE that one of the key targets of these courses is to increase the number of female police officers well prepared for peacekeeping missions. The UN has expressed its willingness to increase the number of female police officers ready for the peacekeeping missions worldwide.
C/P Lanyuy Martin who heads the trainers said that the UN high ranking officials have observed a remarkable small number of female officers who embark in peacekeeping missions in different corners of the world while they are known for their effectiveness.
This police officer underlined that the choice of Rwanda as the host nation was due to the achievements and experience of the Rwanda National Police both in Rwanda and abroad.
Not less than 442 female police agents are deployed in different areas of the world for peacekeeping and conflict managements ends. Among them 82 are Rwandans.
Rwandan police men and women are operating in countries such as Haiti, Mali, Liberia, Ivory Coast , South Sudan, Sudan.
