This decision started being implemented on Sunday evening hours and the aim was to remove all billboards whose owners refused to remove as they are not updated according to the Kigali city’s standards on advertisement
The Kigali city’s standards on this matter were made public on 2013 and the authority warned all its owners to respect them and whoever unwilling to subdue to them was to be apprehended accordingly.
Officials of Kigali city started removing these billboards at Kanombe in the outfits of the Kigali International Airport as this place is the gate of Rwanda to all who use airspace to enter Rwanda.
The Kigali City Authority reveals that around identified 80 billboards will be removed across Kigali city.
It discribes them as being unlawfully set up and its owners are not willing to respect the standars established by the city in 2013 as to make the city cleaner, secure and attractive.
Kigali city mayor Monique Mukaruriza told media that the decision to remove this unlawful billboards was taken last year.
From its inception, concerned people were informed about the resolutions but they manifested unwillingness to subject under this move.
After detecting this unwillingness, three Kigali city districts urged to remove them within six months before further decisions could be taken against their will.
As time allocated to them expired and more other three months were added but in vain, Kigali city reacted accordingly.
Concerned business people do agree that they have been careless enough to implement the Kigali city decision, adding that the decision taken is responsible.
This has been uttered by the representative of the businessmen concerned named Charles Tusubira, who added that they should bear responsibility.
He added the concerned people will work together the Kigali city authority as to put on place smarter billboards that display the image of Kigali city as whole.
