Over 51.5KM of roads are set to be constructed in the City of Kigali. The project is aimed at reducing traffic jams through creation of bypass roads and expansion of the existing roads whose capacities are lower than the current level of traffic using them.
The roads to be constructed:
-Expansion and upgrading to dual carriage way from City centre roundabout-Muhima-Nyabugogo-Gatsata
-Expansion and upgrade to dual carriage way from Rwandex-Sonatubes-Prince House
-Overlaying and replacing streetlights on Kanogo-Rwandex
-Construction of Kimihurura road network
– Rwandex-Gishushu (Dual carriage)
-Rwandex-Mu myembe (Dual carriage)
-Mu myembe-Kimihurura (Primature) Roundabout (Dual carriage)
-Construction of Nyamirambo-Rebero-Kicukiro (Nyanza) road
-Construction of Nyamirambo-Cyumbati-Gikondo road
-Construction of Kagugu-Batsinda-Nyacyonga road
-Construction of Down town-Yamaha road (dual carriage)
-Construction of Kimisange-Cyumbati road
The project which is funded by Chinese Exim Bank is scheduled to take 32 months and the contractor is China Road and Bridge Corporation.
