Nyamirambo – It was during joint and regular meeting that brings all motorcyclists, Kigali city officials and the Rwanda Utility and Regulation Authority( RURA) that a decision to handle to motorcyclists with a card in order to evaluate and mark them has been taken.
According to this decision, the ones who will not be ranked according to the required marks will be removed the permission to exercise the profession.
The Mayor of the Kigali city Kigali Fidel Ndayisaba said that every motorcyclist will be handled a card that will be used to mark him/her. Everyone who will misbehave will be evaluated according to the guidelines and once the marks will declined at a remarkable level, the concerned one will not be allowed to exercise in the Kigali city.
We want professional Moto drivers who are responsible and well disciplined. This is why we have set a disciplinary card which will be used to evaluate the driving behaviors of the motorcyclists, he said.
According to Fidel Ndayisaba every concerned motorcyclists will sign for the mistake done and if the mistakes reach the level set upon by the law he/she will be removed the permission to exercise the profession in the Kigali city.
These disciplinary decisions were set up jointly by Kigali city officials, National Police and the umbrellas of the motorcyclists in Kigali city.
At the side of motorcyclists, they said they encounter challenges related to the people called Inkeragutabara and some of the traffic police agents.
The Police officials present at the meeting handled the motorcyclists with hot lines to call and report about the illegal charges to face from either an Inkeragutabara or a traffic police agent.
The Police allowed motorcyclists to depose a passenger everywhere he/she wishes. They have been warned to depose a client at highly secured areas such as big hospitals, among others.
Motorcyclists were urged by the police to set up self regulatory mechanisms enabling them to remain professional and trustworthy both to the Police and to clients.
At the stadium were over 1000 motorcyclists who exercise in Kigali and its neighborhoods.
