Kigali: ‘Speed Governors’ installed in buses

The RNP and Rwanda Utility and Regulation Authority(RURA) have started installing the speed governors aimed at regulating the speed of buses that carry passengers across Kigali. The aim of this initiative is to reduce the over speeding that is said to be one of the root causes of the deadly road accidents.

The Speed Governor is able to regulate the speed of a bus and does not allow the driver to over speed as he/she wishes.

According to the RURA, buses in Rwanda are not allowed to exceed 60 kilometers. A mobile phone was installed in bus as to help the driver and traffic police assess the speed and take adequate solutions.

The Speed governor reports any attempt of misconduct of the driver in cases where he/she might be willing to remove it as to over speed and the report goes to traffic police and to the driving company where the bus and driver are registered.

One of the drivers whose bus received the tool commended the initiative as it will reduce the frequency of deadly road accidents.

For him the reduction  of the speed is a en effective tool to hinder automobiles from crashing to one another  and hitting  buildings, trees, people, etc.

However the tool is worthy 195, 700 Rwf and the driver or the company should pay it to make the bus more secure.
