Kyambogo University bosses in crisis meeting today

Brandishing tree branches and sticks, the students led by their guild president, Mr John Mugabi, went on rampage challenging the policy which was dictated last month while they were in holidays.

Upon their return, they were ,however, treated to a surprise of the implementation which largely affects continuing students when the new academic year started on August 19. “All students must pay their (respective) fees structures in full in six weeks, which will elapse on September 28,” reads the notice, issued by the administration and copied to all notice boards at the campus.

Call for calm
Mr Mugabi, however, appealed for calm among his fellow students, and convinced them that, “management had rescinded the policy” which they (management) denied saying only council, the top decision making body reserved the utmost say over the decision.

Since 2012, the public institution has been bedeviled by a series of students’ and lecturers’ strikes stemming from alleged maladministration and financial crises. By the time of filing this story, students were still camped outside the main administrative building after failing to reach a consensus from a morning meeting with their leaders and the administrators.
