Lightning has struck dead a cadet police officer attached to Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi District. Mr Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman, identified the deceased as Moris Orach.
According to Mr Onyango, Orach was on his way from the dining hall where he had had supper to his house when he got struck.
Mr Onyango said the incident happened Thursday night, describing it as painful and untimely.
“Our colleague Cadet Moris Orach was struck by lightning last night. He was a committed person. May his soul rest in peace” Mr Onyango, said while speaking to this reporter in Kampala.
Mr Frank Mwesigwe, the Commandant of Kabalye Police Training School, said Orach will be buried in Gulu District Saturday.
“He has been here ( Kabalye police training school) for nearly two years,” he said.
Dangerous lightning usually strikes at the onset of the rainy season.
Meteorologists have always blamed climate change for the extreme weather conditions.
In 2011, at least 28 people were killed and more than 70 injured in just one week, when lightning struck Runyanya Primary School in Kiryandongo District and Paidha Model Primary School in Zombo District.
