Mageragere prison to be operational within two months- Min Fazil says

While inspecting the pace at which the construction of Mageragera prison is being done, Rwandan Minister of internal security, Sheikh Mussa Fazil Harerimana told Umuseke that it will be operational within two coming months.

He was accompanied by the Rwanda Correctional Services(RCS) and revealed that not later than that time, inmates will start being relocated to the new prison that is equipped with all necessary facilities such as modern hygienic tools, lighting facilities, playgrounds, among others.

The construction overseer told delegates that activities to make the facility operational are reaching the construction final  activities and it will start accommodating the inmates not later than October this year.

Min Sheikh Musa Fadhil Harerimana said that the delegation he heads aimed at assessing the pace with which the construction is getting over.

He appreciated the situation, adding that the remaining ones will be completed as the inmates themselves are the ones who are carrying them out.

The Mageragere prison will be home of 3000 inmates and will start hosting them in two coming months, officials affirm.

Minister Harerimana thanked the RCS authorities for the unprecedented commitment and courage shown in constructing the prison and, thus, allowing Rwandan prisoners to live in a comfortable facility that is thought to boost their well-being and comfort.

The prison is surrounded by a road that facilitates circulation and communication.

There are also electrical installations to lighten the facility and reduce the insecurity that is normally likely to happen in dark surroundings.

However, the Mageragere prison still lacks water sanitation installations but, as officials say, these facilities are part of the plan to implement in the coming days.

Mageragere prison is located not so  far from Nyamirambo sector. It will host inmates relocated from central prison known as ‘1930 Prison’ and the ones from Gasabo prison located in Kimironko sector.
