Major Dr Rugomwa told court he is not ready for a trial

The RDF senior officer Maj Dr Rugomwa has told the military court that he is not well prepared to engage into a trial due to the fact that he received the paper describing issues against him not later than yesterday.

Major Dr Rugomwa is suspected of having killed a teenager who is said to have been passing nearby his car.The suspected major said that the dossier from the compassion searchers came late and it became quite impossible for him to read the content.

His co-accused brother Nsanzimfura Mamerito was also absent in the court due to unrevealed reasons.

In the previous court hearing, Major Dr Rugomwa said that what the prosecution calls ‘ voluntary homicide’ is mistaken. It was rather, he said, a fight with a thieve who, afterwards, died.

The dead teenager was called Theogene Mbarushimana and his parents claimed for compensations for psychological damages that resulted from the dead of their son.

Major Dr  Rugomwa is a gynecologist in the Rwanda Military Hospital in Kanombe sector.

He told that court that he needs at least a month to go through all the papers describing the allegations from the compensation searchers before appearing in the court for an open trial.

His wishes were approved by the court and the prosecution side represented by Lawyer Jean Felix Rudakemwa    . The court hearing and open trial will resume on December 20, 2016.
