Matimba inhabitants affirm that Friday, four people were killed by unidentified people. The Nyagatare district officials say they are not aware of the death of four persons, adding that only one person is reported to have been killed . The officials add that one policeman has been injured.
One of witness who participated in the burial activities of the bodies affirm that one of the killed persons was a Director of the TTC (Teacher Training Center) named Rutembesa Alphonse. He said the director was killed in a deplorable manner.
This witness says that the killings happened Friday and affirms that one of the killed was a policeman.
The killings happened in the Matimba sector, in its different cells. One of the witnesses told UM– USEKE that deceased bodies were diagnosed in the Nyagatare Hospital and results presented to the local Police station.
The current news do not stipulate whether all the dead persons belonged to a same family or whether it is an isolated cases.
The District Mayor Sabiti Fred told UM– USEKE that one person was killed and one policeman injured.
“I only know that one person was killed and one policeman injured. I am assessing the situation because it did not happen in the same area and at the same time” said Sabiti Fred.
He said that he is not in good position to provide more information on the situation as the further investigation continues on the case.
The Police Spokesperson in the East province told UM– USEKE that no four persons and one policeman were killed in his sector.
