The aim of yesterday’s visit of the Mahama Burundian refugee camp was to reiterate to them the firm decision that Rwandan government has taken to relocate them in the third countries.

The Minister in charge of refugees and disaster management  Mukantabana Seraphine told the refugees that the decision aims at avoiding unfriendly diplomatic issues with neighboring Burundi as it accuses Rwanda to train militia that target Burundi, accusations that Rwanda  vehemently denies.

Azam Saber who heads the UN Refugee Commission (HCR) urged refugees to remain calm and neutral about issues involving their nation and wait for relocation process that will start in the near future.

Refugees considered the decision fair to them as it intends to create better security situations between Rwanda and its neighbor, Burundi.

Some of them who talked to Umuseke said it would be better if they could remain in Rwanda as they enjoyed better security conditions.

Since the diplomatic ties between Rwanda and Burundi escalated, security has been tightened in theMahama refugee camp as any one who intends to visit the camp mus have a written permission specifying the intention of his visit and any refugee who goes out the camp should be handled with a paper allowing him to go out and upon which time to be back is specified.

Rwanda hosts not less than 75000 Burundian refugees who fled the unrest that prevails in Burundi since April, 2015 when President Pierre Nkurunziza was re-elected.
