Rwandan Minister of education Dr Papias Maliba affirms that Rwandan government is committed to provide all students with equal chances to acquire quality education and those ones who are intellectually weak have to be given enough opportunities to succeed and pass.
Dr Malimba said that yesterday as teachers were celebrating the World Teachers’ Day. Some of teachers who attended the event at national level revealed that some of the challenges Rwandan education system undergoes include a promotional system that seemingly allows the weak learners to pass to new levels of high educational.
For them this weakens the education system and does not inculcate hard working skills among students.
The promotional level of the less successful students is set to 2%, a rate that some teachers blame to be discouraging.
Minister Malimba said that keeping students in a same class as to let them learn more the same matter is rooted into the colonial era.
For him, this does not promote effective and beneficial education system rather it discourages learners and may push some of them to drop school.
Teachers however lauded efforts provided by the Rwandan government to positively change their living conditions through the setting up of financial systems such as SACCO Umwalimu, among others.
Based on this, Rwandan teachers urge policy makers to increase the salary so to be more financially fit and make bank savings.
Some of the teachers who attended the event added that acquiring a bank loan is hard chance to achieve as most of them do not have reliable bank guarantee.
