Minisitiri J. Uwacu met with Rwandan beauty queens

The Minister of culture and sports Julienne Uwacu hosted girls who were crowned as Miss Rwanda since 2012. The aim was to discuss with them and other elderly women who support cultural activities about the cultural trends that can enhance girl’s education about cultural values.

Minister Uwacu refuted the claims according which Rwandan culture has declined.

Uwacu highlighted that Rwandan culture remains strong even though some foreign based cultural values are embedded into Rwandan culture.

This does not mean the decline of Rwandan culture, she said. She said that culture can’t disappear as long as its users still behold it.

The beauty queens since 2012 appreciated the advises they received from the Minister and the wise women, adding that this will help them to actively promote the culture and its related values and norms.
For them culture can be one of pillars upon which social and economic development can base on.

Minister Uwacu said that a close discussions between beauty queens and wise women who are knowledgeable on cultural issues is one of the channels through which cultural norms can reach the rest of young people.

The current crowned Miss Rwanda 2015 Doriane Kundwa informed to Umuseke that the ones who claim that the culture keeps declining base their thoughts on the traditional culture trends that they want to remain as such.

However, culture evolves and people should understand it, she added.

On behalf of her colleagues, Miss Kundwa said that they will strive to mobilize the youth on the importance of upholding Rwandan culture and its related values and norms.
