Minister Gashumba urges families to adopt children who still live in orphanages

Dr Diane Gashumba who is the Minister in charge of family affairs said that currently 1 104 children still live in orphanages, adding that this should be avoided and children be adopted in families that will provide them with education and care they deserve.

She said that as Rwanda has 2 148 cells, adding that if one family in every cell could adopt one child, all children will find families to live in.

Different partners in the education of Rwandan children sat together to discuss on mechanisms and strategies to foster child education but in adoptive families where they will be taken in care by doting parents.

The initiative was labeled Tubarere Mu Muryango( TMM). One of the children who has been adopted called Diane Uwase said that since her adoption, he life has changed for better as  she lives with parents who discipline her, advise her and give her necessary items for well being.

Research has shown that in 2013, not less than 3 325 children were living in orphanages and among them, 70% had single parents.

However, the current statistics show that 1 104 still live in orphanages and still need to be adopted and enjoy family lives.

Minister Dr Gashumba urged the families that adopted the children to treat them fairly and avoid any harsh behaviors on the children’s behalf.
