Rwanda- Most breaking news in 2013

The Year 2013 has been rich in events that marked the national life both internally and at international level. Among these included the parliamentary elections, the inception of the Ndi Umunyarwanda  program, the issue of M23 and the past diplomatic crisis between Rwanda and Tanzania.

Invited journalists in the studios of Radio Isango star  assessed the outcomes of all these issues that marked the  year 2013.  The journalists were Umuganwa Gonzagua, Umugwaneza Liliane and Williams John Ntwali.

The most commented story in 2013 is the ‘Ndi Umunyarwanda’ program . This idea has been set out by Bamporiki Edouard who wanted to bring the youth together and discuss on the historical sad effects and try to find out effective measures to bring upon lasting unity and reconciliation.

But surprisingly, politicians explain this program different from what it was intended for, said journalists.

However , the policy was not fully explained to the population thus did not bear its fruits, journalists said. According to them, the Ndi Umunyarwanda was good but the was it has been explained to the population was not clear enough.

One of the journalist appreciated the reactions of Rwandans about the policy saying that this has shown that Rwandans are growing politically mature.

Regarding the parliamentary elections, journalists denounces some shortcomings including the fact that over 70% of the former deputies were voted to be in the current one. Journalists said that it would be better if new figures could be elected to be in  the Parliament.

Journalists said private candidates an minority political parties did not receive effective means to compete with RPF, the ruling political party, giving examples of Mwenedata Gilbert and Mukabunani. They advocated for a more transparent electoral campaign.

About the diplomatic crisis between Rwanda and Tanzania, some the journalists appreciated the fact that currently the situation between both nations is calm. For others, Rwanda has lost in front of Tanzania when the M23 was defeated.

The show was also broadcated to different radio stations including Radio Ishingiro, Voice of Africa, Inkoramutima, Radio Izuba.

This weekly show is meant to promote the culture of debate on issues that concern Rwanda. It is prepared by Institut Panos Paris and Association Rwandaise des journalistes.
