Mugesera’ lawyer charged with 500 000Rwf fee for delaying the court ‘operations

As the court hearing on the case of Mugesera was to resume today, his lawyer denied to intervene on his client case, saying that he still has to rest according to the medical papers on his health status.

Reacting to this, the panel of judges charged him with a fee of 500 000 Rwf for his observed willingness to delay the court’s operation claiming his sickness while the medical papers were forged as recently revealed by the court.

Lawyer Rudakemwa told the jury that he came to court due to the last court hearing’s resolution that obliged him to be present in the court today.

He however added that he was unhealthy to defend his client. Mugesera backed his lawyer’s position, claiming that his sickness did not allow them ( Mugesera and lawyer Rudakemwa)to consult each other so to carry out the defense effectively.

To this, the jury members replied that they(Mugesera and Lawyer Rudakemwa) have had enough time for the consultation and there is no way this can be another issue for the court to pronounce upon.

After deliberations, the court concluded that the wishes of Lawyer Rudakemwa are baseless and therefore should be refuted and pay a fee of 500 000Rwf.

Mugesera immediately expressed his discomfort about the court’s decision, saying that he will appeal for the decision to charge a fee to his defender.
