The Handicap International in partnership with the Muhanga District authorities has facilitated 3000 students living with disabilities to return to school and receive education as any other Rwandan child.
Mr Murenzi Vincent the manager of the Program said this during a one day meeting that aimed assessing how far the objectives to bring quality education to all children in both Muhanga and Kamonyi Districts have been achieved.
He said that NGO has provided significant efforts to boost incvlusive education through mobilsationa of the population about the usefulness of the inclusive education.
“We helped teachers acquire skills and knowledge about special education needs and apply them in classroom setting. We are glad to find how effective this has been indeed”Murenzi continues.
He hopes that education based discrimination will cease to exist as all education stakeholders commit the end it.
Hakizimana Valerien ,in charge of education says that befre these recent efforts 900 childern living with special needs left school but that currently 800 are reintegrated to education.
In Muhanga statistics say that 0,1% of students left school last year while in Kamonyi student =s who dropped fro school are 0,2%
