The minister of Natural Resources, Dr. Vincent Biruta, launched the planting season for 2014A in Muhanga district urging farmers to fully participate in the new cultivating season and improve crop production.
“Adapt new methods of farming, participate in Land Use Consolidation, use fertilizers, improve on what you did the last season and increase crop production than expected,” Biruta asked
More than 2000 people joined forces to cultivate land where cassava will be planted.
According to the agricultural officer of Muhanga district, seeds and fertilizers have been distributed in all parts of the district so nothing should hinder planting on time this season.
District officials say that cassava will be planted on 4000 hectares of land, Maize on 3000 hectares and beans on 17,700 hectares and rice will be grown on 260 hectares of land only.
Muhanga district has 1120 groups of farmers in “Twigire Muhinzi” programs.
