Muhanga: Senate commission visits Nyabarongo Power plant

Normally the Nyabarongo Power plant might have been completed in the April 2014, but the construction work was extended until the end of August.

As it still undergoes the same problem, some of the members of the senate visited the Power plant as to learn about the key issues that hinder the completion of construction work.

The senators found that what is needed is the availability of the highly skilled experts in electric installation so that the activities might end.

Hon Mukankusi Pelina who led the commission of finance and accountancy in Senate  expressed her appreciation about the fact that the site has gathered enough water that will enable the rest of the work to get completed quicker.

For her, that the rest of the work will be done by experts who will install all the rest of machines and tools as to provide the electric power needed.

She said that those experts will be made available in the coming week and this hopefully will accelerate the construction work, Hon Mukankusi added.

The CEO of EUCL Mugiraneza Jean Bosco told UM– USEKE reporter that the one of the technicians has already arrived in Rwanda and to three more will be coming before the end of this ongoing October.

The Senators will visit more other electric power plants located in Nyamagabe, Rusizi, and  Karongi districts as to assess the pace of construction  of these power plants that will provide as many as   120 megawatts 120 in addition to the existing 100Megawatts.

Other power supplies will be bought from neighboring countries such as Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia, the aim being to equip 70 per cent of the households in Rwanda with electricity not later than 2017.
