Muhanga: The Land registration week started

The Minister of natural resources management Kamanzi Stansilas urged the Muhange dwellers to valorize the land they own as process that leads to food security.

It was this Tuesday that the opening ceremony of the week reserved for land registration was inaugurated in at the Stadium of Muhanga district with the presence of different authorities from both the district and the Ministry.

During the discussion, many challenges during the preceding registration process were discussed.

Most of challenges discussed upon included presence of wide lands belonging to locals but did not valorize the land.

To this, Minister Kamanzi urged the owners to utilize them and make them more productive.

He mentioned that the ones who are unable to do so should provide opportunities to the willing ones so to valorize them.

The governor of the Southern Province Munyantwari Alphonse said that the preceding land registration process was effective.

He however condemned locals who do not manage their lands while there are others who are willing and able to valorize the land but lack them.

The Mayor of the Muhanga District said that the district officials faced the challenge relating to locals who combined their lands to be registered and pay less registration fees.

The Minister Kamanzi Stanislas said that such issues are uncommon, expressing his worries about the issues if they have been applied in many corners of the country.

He said these tricky issues are susceptible to create more conflicts among people in the coming years.

The Land registration process in Rwanda has started in  2009  and more than 10 million lands parcels were registered.

Among all of these registered lands, only 8000 have been given registration permits, the rest of the lands still have cases to be settled.
