As district advisory councils are electing district mayors, the first district to elect its mayor is Muhanga district where Uwamariya Beatrice, who usually acted as the executive secretary of Mushishiro sector for four years, was elected as the Mayor of Muhanga district, Southern Province.
Uwamariya Beatrice replaces Yvonne Mutakwasuku who led the district in the previous mandates.
She is a university graduate in economy and development.
She worked for the Ministry of agriculture and animal husbandry for five years and has been working for the National Electoral Commission for one year.
Uwamariya spent three years working for a Netherlands’s NGO called SNV.
The experienced lady worked also for a women’s Christian organization called Union Chretienne Feminine for five years before shifting to the position of Executive secretary of the Nyarusange district.
Her election takes her to the position of being the mayor of Muhanga district but before she was the executive secretary of Mushishiro sector.
She is married with three children.
Elsewhere
In Ngoma district Aphrodise Nambaje was elected while Mbabazi Francois Xavier remains the mayor of Ruhango district.
Kicukiro district has a new mayor named Dr Jeanne Nyirahabimana who was acting as the Vice –Rector Academic at the West province based university INATEK.
She was also acting as the president of the Kicukiro district advisory council.
