Muhanga – 85 women being part of the an association called Abagore b’Ibyiringiro ( Women for Hope) gathered first aid tools to help the widows who are the survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in a commemoration event that took place yesterday at Muhanga stadium.
Those women aimed at commemorating the women who were massacred by the Interahamwe militias during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis.
Apart from the material support, the members of the Abagore b’Ibyiringiro association provided the needy widows with a monetary package worthy 500 000 Rwf to help them overcome daily challenges.
One of the widows called Murorunkwere Alexia related her sad history during the genocide, and how fortunately managed to escape.
She expressed the post genocide consequences she and fellow widows are still enduring. She therefore thanked the organisations that connduct the advocacy on the behalf of the survivors including AVEGA and Kanyarwanda.
For her, these organisations have helped them to set up a new and positive lifestyle that enables them to be hopeful for an even better future.
The Abagore b’Ibyiringiro Association has provided genocide widows with 30 cows, 34 domestic pigs.
The assoaciation also provides both intellectual and financial support to young girls so that they can start businesses that are susceptible to positively change their lives.
