During the yearly gorilla naming ceremony that took place in the Northern Province in Musanze district, The Head of State Paul Kagame, put an emphasis on the fact that Rwanda owns minerals to exploit. President Kagame underlined that all Rwandans will be benefiting from the gains resulting from the exploitation.
The first beneficiaries are the ones living in the neighboring areas before it expands to the remote ones.
24 gorilla babes were named for their identification and follow up so to ensure its safety.
People from 26 countries attended the event and contributed to the naming ceremony.
The first to have named the gorilla babes was the minister of trade and industry, Francois Kanimba .
He provided the name Hangumurimo( literally: be entrepreneurial) to the gorilla babe borne from the Isimbi family.
The mother of Hangumurimo is named Rwanda rushya(The New Rwanda).
Among other key personalities who named gorilla babe include the Rwandan diva Butera Knowless who called the gorilla babe, ‘Bubasha’(power) referring to inclusion of women in different activities of national interests.
Minister of natural resources Dr Vincent Biruta named the gorilla babe ‘Indashyikirwa’( literally: pioneer) to recognize the financial contribution of gorillas in the national economy.
During his speech, the Head of State Paul Kagame commended the role that Musanze residents play in their province’ socioeconomic development.
For him, this must be accelerated and leave all Rwandans in general out of poverty.
President Kagame said that poverty should not overwhelm Rwandans.
“Rwandans deserve nothing but richness and prosperity, Kagame said.
He encouraged all Rwandans to keep work hard; having in mind that poverty can be overcame due to continuous and joint efforts.
The Head of State pointed that natural resources are not a problem in itself but how they are exploited, processed and distributed in terms of generated incomes to the population.
For him, the ones living in the neighboring areas of the said resources must primarily benefit from all the activities aimed at managing the resources.
Officially 5% of the activities relating to the management of the mountain gorilla national park are invested in activities that economically enable residents of Kinigi sector, Musanze district, North Province.
The initiative was taken as hinder the poachers from threatening the fauna, especially gorillas.
Before this 11th gorilla naming ceremony kicked off, outstanding protectors of the Ibirunga national park were rewarded.
Those included Nyiranizeyimana Talcie, Furaha Godfrey, Nyiramanzi Agnes, Bandorayingwe Gaspard, Mukeshimana and Kwihandagaza Jean.
