Netherlands ready to build a court in Nyanza- Min Fred Treevens

Yesterday the Minister of foreign affairs of the Netherlands, Fred  Treevens promised to the Chief Justice Prof Rugege Sam that his country is soon to build a court that will try the genocide suspects extradited from different countries  to Rwanda.

Prof Rugege Sam told the journalists that Netherlands is ready to help Rwanda in juridical matters so to make the system more effective.

Citizens from  the Netherlands have contributed a lot to the Rwandan juridical system. They helped in building courts across the nation and provided  IT tools useful  to achieving our  duties, Prof Rugege Sam told journalists.

Prof Rugege said that the Netherlands promised to set up a court in Nyanza, a court that will try suspects extradited from Netherlands and will be built in close neighborhood of the current National Museum in Nyanza.

Prof Rugege added that the court will also try also suspects from other countries who will be extradited to Rwanda.

The court is meant to be both  technologically and professionally well equipped to handle all cases of both national and international levels, Prof Rugege said.

The court will start being operational in 2015, said Minister Fred Treevens.

Different suspects of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi are still living illigally in  Western countries but some of these countries are sadly hesitating  to extradite them to Rwanda claiming that the Rwandan juridical system is not fair enough.

Other countries hesitate to extradite the suspects to Rwanda due to the fact that there is no bilateral agreements between Rwanda and the concerned nations to exchange suspects.
