The Nyagatare based hospital is selected among the 32 hospitals in East African nations that are equipped with necessary tools and staff to handle the cross border diseases. The director of the Laboratory told Umuseke that the laboratory is ready to diagnose cross border diseases such as Ebola, Cholera among others.
Masengesho Vedaste said that the lab will be diagnosing such diseases from all over the region.
He highlighted that the laboratory works closely with other laboratories in the region and this is an added value to its success, he said.
If there are new diseases that emerge, technicians from all over the region consult each other and therefore react accordingly.
According to him, the laboratory is equipped with both enough material and skilled workers to fulfill its medical missions.
It is also able to diagnose the complicated TB and provide the final results within two hours, a relatively small time.
Different hospitals consult this laboratory for accurate results especially in treating Tuberculosis.
These hospitals include Gahini, Ngarama, Gatsibo and Kiziguro.
It is also able to provide the final results from the HIV/AIDS presumed sufferers within two weeks while in the previous time, it took three months to be available.
The laboratory is equipped with cardio-vascular diseases treatment machines. It also has well lung and liver treatment machines among others technologically advanced machines.
During the epidemic outbreak, the laboratory works together with the migration office as to assess the situation and come into help to those in need.
