Nyamata: MissRwanda 2016 contesters visit the Ntarama genocide memorial site

All the girls who are competing for the Miss2016 crown visited the Ntarama genocide memorial site located in Nyamata city, East Province.

This Tuesday those girls arrived to the site to learn more about the genocide committed against the Tutsi in the region in particular.

As they came closer to the site, they left the bus and walked towards the genocide memorial, a walk to remember that was 500 meters length.

At the site , thy participated into cleaning  activities of the site and thereafter they were provided with necessary explanations about how genocide was committed in the region.

Tutsis who fled the Interahamwe militia from the neighborhood gathered in a catholic church at Ntarama hoping that killers will not pursue them up there.

But the killers violated that norms and killed them inside the church, a place that is normally holy and taken at high esteem.

The beauties were allowed to visit different rooms  that host historical remains pertaining to the horror that characterized the genocide in Ntarama in 1994.

The  trip ended with act of putting flowers to the graves of the dead ones in their honor.

After witnessing the historical  remains of the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in Ntarama,  girls who spoke to Umuseke expressed their commitment in the fight against its ideology.

According to the schedule, a pre- selection phase that will take place on Sunday, 14, February qualify only 15 girls illegible to attend the so-called ‘boot camp’ where they will be thaught about Rwandan cultural values and norms.
