Joyce Rehema has accused the Inspector of Police Germaine Bukuru of having played a significant role in sending her in Oman where she endured sex abuses before returning back to Rwanda with the help of security organs.
IP Bukuru has been convicted to five years in jail by the Nyanza court. She appealed and the yesterday’ court hearing was attended by Joyce Rehema who testified against the officer saying he was among the ones who back her(Joyce) journey to Oman where she was sexually abused.
Rehema Joyce told the court that IP Bukuru, alongside her twin Butoya Felicite, maliciously convinced her to go to Oman where she was told she will be hired by a local company ready to pay her a significant salary.
The witness told the court that she was told by IP Bukuru’s twin, currently living in Oman that it was in her interest to travel to Oman to get a decent job with enviable salary.
She left her job in the Huye district and went to Oman.
Rehema added that she was not familiar with both twins, adding that one of them convinced her about the interest she was about to gain once in Oman.
They told that once in Oman I will meet the bosses of a motorbikes selling company that were ready to hire me and pay much better, Rehema told the court.
Once in Oman she was frustrated by the fact that unnamed people took her belongings including a mobile phone and started life threating daily jobs and was frequently beaten.
Asked whether she found people in Oman who were enduring the same fate, she responded that in the same room where she lived, not less than 40 females from other nationalities, were experiencing same hardships.
Rehema told that court that the Rwanda National Police did its best to return her home.
The IP Bukuru’s lawyer Shoshi Bizimana ureged the court to attentively review the written testimonies of Rehema as they (testimonies) are full of contradictions.
IP Bukuru told the court that even if was in regular discussions with her twin in Oman she didn’t know her intentions to traffic humans in Oman.
I am not able to grasp someone’s inner intentions to traffic humans, she said.
The prosecution told that court it is trying its best to find a call number that IP Bukuru used while calling an Oman businessman and this will be much helpful in testifying against the Police Officer IP Bukuru.
The court healing was postponed to take place on July, 17, 2018.
It is hoped that the prosecution will be able to show to the court that number allegedly used by Inspector of Police Bukuru while calling in Oman.
