Girls studying a primary school in Ntarama sector in Nyamata District urge the school officials to feed them at school because going back home to take lunch diminishes their school performance.
One of the students Ms Uwamurera Virginie told Umuseke that for them going back to their far located homes is tiresome and does not promote their studying habits.
She added that if they are fed at school this will help them to not loose energy and time and will favor their studying activities.
Uwamurera added that the journey home takes not less than one hour and half meaning three hours(go and back journey).
Another student Nashimye Patrick reports that they leave their class rooms from 11h 40 and come back at 12h 40 as the internal regulations stipulate it.
We enter the classrooms being very tired as if we did not take launch, he continues
We eat in hurry and this does not promote our health and learning performance, he adds.
Yankurije Antoinette, the Director of the school reported that before students were given food but currently they don’t because the WFP(World Food Program), was supporting the school’s efforts.
Before we provided food to our students but currently we stopped because the WFP stopped, she underlined.
She added this has negatively impacted on the students’ performance.
This Nyirarukobwa Primary school has been created since 34 years ago and currently hosts 805 students.
