This is a new incentive for people to read and sharpen their minds while on board travelling from one place to another. The Gira igitabo aho uri’( have a book to read everywhere, literally) program started being implemented yesterday in Musanze District, Northern Province where passengers were provided with illustrated books to read while on board from Musanze to Kigali.
At least 500 books will be disseminated in different tax parks of Rwanda where passengers will be taking them up and read them as they travel.
The aim is to instill reading skills among Rwandan in general and the youth in particular, said Mutesi Gasana who leads the Arise Education, a local NGO that sells books at cheap price.
Mutesi said that a passenger can wisely spend the two hours from Musanze to Kigali reading the book, thus gaining knowledge and insights on the various issues.
The governor of the Northern Province JMV Gatabazi commended the efforts of the young people who wrote the books, among whom the youngest is attending the Secondary school, Level One.
Gov Gatabazi said that this new reading trend will be increasing reading habits among the youth and therefore, improve quality of education.
He called upon passengers to avoid less informative behavior while on board such as Whatsapp messaging but embrace reading books and earn more knowledge.
