President Kagame will join the World Economic Forum Annual meetings bringing together heads of states and governments as well as leaders from the private sector. Held over four days, this year’s forum is themed “The New Global Context” and will discuss the changing global landscape and challenges facing the global community.
President Kagame’s participation at the forum will begin with a breakfast roundtable bringing together leaders from a variety of sectors for a discussion focused on business opportunities in Rwanda.
President Kagame will also be joining a televised debate on CNBC on “Achieving Africa’s Growth Ambitions.” The debate will be moderated by Brownyn Nielsen with panelists including Albert Kobina Essien Group CEO Ecobank; Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman, Bharti Enterprises and President Jacob Zuma.
This year’s forum will be co-chaired by Hari S. Bhartia, co-chairman and Founder of Jubilant Bhartia Group India, Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of Oxfam International, Katherine Garrett-Cox, CEO Alliance Trust, UK, Jim Yong Kim, President of The World Bank, Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman Google and Roberto Egydio Setubal, CEO Itau Unibanco, Brazil.
The forum will address the following four key issues: growth and stability, crisis and cooperation, society and security as well as innovation and industry.
During his four days participation at the World Economic Forum, President Kagame will speak at events discussing topics including business and economic growth, the role of ICT in economic transformation as well as the importance of gender parity.
The forum describes this year’s topic as one addressing the idea that the world is confronted by “profound political, economic, social and above all technological transformations that are altering long-standing assumptions about our prospects, resulting in an entirely “new global context” for decision-making.”
This year’s forum will discuss the impact of this new global context, the challenges it presents as well as its opportunities.
