The Head of Stare Paul Kagame reminded the Members of Parliament that one of their key responsibilities is to monitor the government’s activities and hold its officials accountable when they fail to fulfill their duties. MPs promised President Kagame to improve their future proceedings in dealing with government officials who fail to fulfill their duties.
President Kagame said that he is willing to see changes made in how Members of Parliament hold Ministers accountable.
Usually government officials who appear in the Parliament respond to the MPs questions regarding how they fulfill their duties but the ones who fail to fulfill them do not face adequate disciplinary measures recommended by the Parliament.
President Kagame revealed that this attitude from the MPs is caused by fear which hinders them from holding the government officials accountable.
He advised them to avoid such weak and irresponsible attitudes that have negative long lasting impacts to the life of Rwandans.
The President of Senate Bernard Makuza and the Speaker of Parliement Donatille Mukabalisa promised that the House of representatives welcomes the advises from the Head of State and will be applying them in the coming sessions.
The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Abbas Mukama told Umuseke that the House has failed to fulfill some of its duties and is since then committed to change how it proceeds.
