Private universities knew the decision to chase students who scored poorly -Dr Biruta.

During a live radio show held this Sunday, 17, November at different radio stations, journalists debated on the current changes in education system especially at university level whereby recently registered  students to private universities and don’t have a required mark to university studies are to stop.

Different journalists including Mr Umuhire Valentin and Dany Iraguha  brought up ideas on the causes for this changes. Some said that the mistake was done by the Ministry of education which has set up a policy but did not make a follow up of its implementation until the time is too late to adjust the amplitude of the problem.

At the other hand, journalists said fault is for the private universities which affirm it knew that resolution was taken but did not implement it until the time the Ministry forces them to respect the order.

In his re-broadcasted voice, Dr Vincent Biruta affirmed that the universities were communicated about the decision since 2007 but did not confirm on it.

The private universities knew about the decision since 2007- Dr Biruta

“Thus this resolution has to be implemented according to the agreement we signed with  all private universities”, adds Dr Biruta.

Dr Biruta reminded different former policies taken in order to establish a clear and strong education systems but seemingly people do not conform on it.

“We used e-mail messaging to remind the private universities to not receive students who scored poorly but they did not” said Dr Biruta quoted as talking  to the Radio ten, Radio Rwanda  and TV 10 media.

Private universities representatives told to journalists present at the show that they knew the decision but blamed the MINEDUC to have not told them the exact date this decision had to start being implemented.

Students interviewed by reporters of the Isango Star denounce the decision, saying that if it is implemented the way it is decided they will be the victims of situation they were not informed of.

One of them humbly urged the Ministry to let them finish their university studies and apply the decision to the students who will be attending universities in the forthcoming academic years.

One of the listeners who intervened in the show deplored the whole education system, saying that it is unproductive to let everyone pass from one level to another while due marks. She added that this impacts on the quality of students in upper levels of education.

For journalists present in the show, students should be the victims of the current situation resulted from ‘a poor communication’ between both MINEDUC and private universities , as one of the journalists has said.

‘If they decide to overthrow them, they have to give them due payments for unfortunate occurrences upon them‘, advised one of them

The currently decision of MINEDUC to readjust education quality comes in after a long controversy raised by the Ubudehe categorization whereby university students were to receive the school fees according to the social and economic status.

In the show , invited guests of the MINEDUC did not attend but journalists who attended debated to every core part of the situation.

This show takes place every Sunday afternoon, from 2h00 to 3h00 and is broadcasted in different radio stations such as Isango Star, Isangano, Izuba, Inkoramutima, Voice of Africa, and Radio Ishingiro.

Topics discussed in this shows are meant to promote the culture of debate and free expression on issues of tremendous importance to both national and international scenes.
