Kimihurura – Today in the court hearing that took place in the Kimihurura court, the persecution has urged the court to sentence Agnes Ntamabyariro to life imprisonment for her alleged involvement into the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. She is co-accused with Hategekimana Leonard who has previously been sentenced to such life imprisonment.
Ntamabyariro was formerly been found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment by Nyarugenge court. She thereafter appealed to the court claiming her innocence due to the fact Mugenzi Justin who was the leader of the PL political party was found innocent, concluding her innocence too as someone who acted under the same rules of the party.
She said that the speech she delivered to a former Radio Rwanda’s presenter, she never pointed a Tutsi to be killed but the prosecution vehemently affirms that she clearly explained that the ones to be caught and killed were the Tutsi.
Due to this, the prosecution urged the Court to respect and apply the same sentence as the one formerly pronounced by the Nyarugenge court.
The prosecution detailed the alleged crimes Ntamabyariro is suspected to have committed including the words such as Ibyitso, Umwanzi, FPR Inkotanyi, words which simulated the Tutsi, the prosecution told the Court.
Based on the fact that anyone who uttered such words between 1990-1994 was automatically relating to the Tutsi, the prosecution affirmed that Ntamabyariro was not an exception as someone who knew the situation at time.
At her side, the accused said that these words were not intended to express the Tutsi rather it pointed out the necessity to fight back the RPF Inkotanyi that was fighting to overthrow the ruling government.
According to the court’s instructions, Ntamabyariro with her co-acceded will appear in court on November, 05, 2014 to deliver more explanations about the former leader of the PL Mugenzi Justin.
