Rafiki Jean Francois Clément from the Ruvumera neighborhood, Gitarama cell, Nyamabuye sector in Muhanga Distrcit is 30 years old and owns over 20 million Rwf after an investment of 300.000 only.
Afterf graduating at KIST in Food Science, the young person decided to start his own business and earn more. After buying a printer and a computer, he set up a small business in Kigali city nearby a university where students came to search for his services.
While serving in Kigali city, one page to photocopy was worthy 60 Rwf. Afterwards in 2008, he shifted from Kigali to Muhanga where one page was worthy 100 Rwf.
In Muhanga, he rent a new building to expand and make his business services available to students. As the business grow up, he bought another machine and hired a worker for better services provision.
In 2010 Rafiki started to compete with other businessmen but he was not as financially strong as his competitors. He searched for a bank loan as to be as competitive as his counterparts were. The Bank of Kigali provided him with a loan of 4 million Rwf to pay lately.
With the loan he bought a land to build a house and bought more tools for the betterment of the business. The businessman has now a Masters degree with all necessity business tools to spearhead his business.
He has now 60 computers and hired 10 young educated people to utilize these machines and get paid monthly. For him, the journey towards success continues as he intends to expand the business in all 12 sectors of Muhanga Distrcit, he told UM– USEKE reporter in Muhanga.
He urges the Banks to provide loans to well-designed business plans without asking the youth to present guarantee to the banks. One of the banks denied me a loan due to the lack of a guarantee but another one has provided with the needed loan and now I have grown financially fit, he said.
He advises the youth the start the business with the little they have and grow. For him, everything needs time and space to grow.
