The Manager of the Rwanda Development Board’s tourism section, Belise Kaliza calls Rwandans to be more involved in domestic tourism activities as to become more familiar and knowledgeable on the beauties of their motherland.
She deplored the fact that statistics describe Rwandans to be less active in tourism while this should be the reverse.
Belise Kalisa uttered that when she was addressing media after a so called ‘Tembera u Rwanda’ campaign that took place last week.
The campaign that started in the South Province and that is supposed to cross all provinces of Rwanda is intended to boost Rwandans’ willingness to embrace touristic spirit.
The RDB statistics show Akagera National Park has been visited by 61% of Rwandan tourists while , Nyungwe Park was attended by 37% Rwandan tourists.
14% of Rwandans are the only ones who visit the Ibirunga National Park.
The above statistics show that this trend does not promote a domestic tourism that, normally, should be more attended by locals eager to know their history.
In 2015, tourism sector has contributed to national treasury at 316 million $.
These sites are located in Ruhango, Kamonyi, Nyanza and Huye districts, all of them being historically recognized as ‘factual’.
