Our informants affirm that the Rwanda Energy Group has a new boss namely Ron Weiss in replacement of former boss Mugiraneza Jean Bosco. The Ministry of infrastructures public relations officer told Umuseke this morning that he was unaware of the news. However our informant affirms that the new CEO Ron Weiss was presented to the entire staff early this morning.
Since 2010, the Rwanda government envisioned to providing Rwandans with 563 MW of electricity not later than 2017 but until the end of last year, Rwanda produced not more than 280 MW.
The former CEO Jean Bosco Munyaneza uttered that the current electricity supply is enough to feed the entire nation, an assumption that is contrary to the reality on ground.
His claims were made public during the last IPAD Rwanda Energy Infrastructure held on November 2016.
The new CEO Ron Weiss is an Israeli who has been leading the Israel Electrical Corporation (IEC). He played a crucial role in helping Rwanda to benefit from the Israeli’s support on the energy sector.
Rwanda aims at providing its citizens with 563 MW not later than the end of next year as to feed 70% of the entire population.
Jean Bosco Mugiraneza has however said that his term was of a significant input as he played a role in setting up different power plants including Rukarara, Nyabarongo plants as well as making the Kivu Lake more valuable through producing methane gas.
Other power plants are also under construction on in a way to be so. These include Gishoma, na Rusumo.
