After a wait of about 24 hours for the water level to reduce, officials from the Ministry of disaster management and refugee affairs twitted that the water level decreased thus allowing Kigali-Muhanga road users to use it as usual. However the Kigali-Gakenke-Musanze road users aren’t yet able to use the road as landslides are still hindering easy communication.
The same communiqué announces that 50 people lost their lives and 583 houses have been destroyed by these windy rains that invaded different districts of Rwanda including Gakenke, Musanze, among others.
Yesterday the Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi participated into the burial of the victims of these heavy rains and more material and logistic facilities were given to mostly needy families.
Minister Murekezi was accompanied by the Minister in charge of disaster management Seraphine Mukantabana, Minister of internal affairs Francis Kaboneka, State Minister in the Ministry of Natural Resources Evode Imena, Inspector General of Police Emmanuel Gasana and various officials including senators.
The content of the communiqué reveals that the Government has provided locals with necessary tools as to help them cope with the prevailing situations on ground.
The communiqué, however, says that the help that meant to be delivered to Muhanga district did not reach the beneficiaries due to fact that the Kigali-Muhanga road is still impracticable.
The Ministry of agriculture in collaboration with the Ministry of disaster management and refugee affairs will be delivering food items to displaced people settled in different parts.
