Builders of a model village located in Rubavu distict, Nyundo sector, Bahimba cell said that they have not been salaries for the last three months. However, the constructors remain active hoping that they will be paid soon.
The model village being constructed is one of the model villages that the Rwandan government promised to establish in all sectors of Rwanda as to accommodate people living in high risk zones in proper and safer houses.
One of the constructors of the village told Umuseke that they living in hardiships as salaries for the last three months have delayed.
The unnamed worker revealed that he was paid about 30 000Frw only from 80 0000 Frw that the management of the project owns him.
Another worker at the site claims that the delay of the salaries have pushed them to accumulate loans from local sellers.
Pelagie, one of the mothers working at the construction site, affirms that it is hard for her to buy food to cook for her children.
The acting Mayor of Rubavu district Janvier Murenzi said that he was uninformed about the issue but promises to assess the situation and resolve it accordingly in cooperation with concerned officials.
The construction of the model village will be carried out in two phases.
Phase one comprises of accommodation houses while the second one will be comprising of the construction of schools and modern market.
It is estimated that its completion will cost not less than one billion and six hundred million Rwandan francs (1.6 billion Frw)
