As authorities in charge of registering refugees and provide them with food supplies needed for the survival, they found that the big majority of them was faking their backgrounds as they wanted to be given food support.
They are hosted in Nyagatare refugee’s transit camp, in Rusizi district, Western Province. Authorities say that the refugees came from the neighboring DRC and they undergo a ‘finger print’ test to fully assess their real identity.
The yesterday’s assessment has shown that 52 above so-called repatriated refugees, have already been in Rwanda and this confuses the officials as to know who is new and needy from the old one who has already got the support.
The manager of the camp Ildephonse Haguma told Umuseke that the management is handling this situation through sensitizing refugees about the negative aspect of such behaviors.
For him, those refugees should nurture the working habits to become self reliant instead of relying on the aid.
Normally the repatriated refugees receive material items for domestic use and the medical insurance commonly known as Mutuelle de Santé.
