Rusororo: 276 bodies buried decently

 15 April, Rusororo dwellers with friends buried 276 bodies of innocent Tutsis killed in 1994 genocide. The burial event took place as to commemorate the Tutsis killed in 1994.

Most of the bodies were thrown in a nearby grave  located  neighboring  school. The Memorial site in Rusororo hosts over 32 546 bodies of Tutsis who were killed in Rusororo and in its neighboring areas.

Asked about why local authorities did not find where the bodies were and bury them in a honorable ways, Mwizerwa Eric, the Ibuka representative in Rusororo Sector responded that people who knew where was the pit did not communicate it earlier.

We searched where the pit was but we did not find it. In Gacaca witnesses did not tell us where the bodies were thrown, unfortunately, he said.

Mwizerwa said that during the genocide, helicopters bombed the areas where Tutsi chose to hide. Many were killed and thrown in three pits located nearby.

During the excavation, two pits were found but one missed. It has been discovered few days ago during as builders were preparing a land for house construction.

Mwizerwa revealed that local survivors have overcome the sad past they experienced and defined their way towards better living conditions ahead.

Mwizerwa said that survivors from Ruhanga are worried about knowing where the bodies of different Tutsis killed in remote areas are so to bury them decently.

The Minister of culture and sports, Protais Mitali criticized why local people who knew where the pit was located but hide it.

It is shameful and sad that a mass grave  containing over 200 bodies was not seen for 20 years ago and be recently discovered by people who intended to build a house in the area, said Min Mitali.

Other guests in the event also criticized the silent behavior of Ruhanga dwellers who did not communicate where the grave was located so bury bodies decently.
