Rwanda: 35% of religious churches in North Province closed

Yesterday the Northern Province officials met with various religious leaders to discuss on how the closing of noisy and dirty churches contributed to the calmness and better worshipping practices.

As the meeting went on, religoues leaders were told that currently 35% of all the churches in the province were closed as to allow its leaders set better infrastructures for their followers to worship in better places.

The 35% of the closed churches is made up of 775 churches. Present religious leaders told the Privincial senior officials including the Governor that they are about to explain to their followers the why of the churches’ closings.

The religious persons urged provincial officials to close their churches while they (religious leaders) are present at the occasion.

The governor of the Northern Province JMV Gatabazi underlined the importance of having decent worshipping areas as a national policy that none should bypass.

For him, safe and decent worshipping churches are imperative for religious leaders to instate.

Gatabazi told those ones whose churches were closed to fulfill requirement, present them to local leaders before their churches get re-opened.

There are 775 churches closed in five districts comprising the Northern Province, The whole province comprises of 2 194 churches.
