Rwanda celebrates the World Migratory Bird Day

The Rwanda Development Board has celebrated the international birds day in the Akagera national park. Mukeshimana Jean de Dieu in charge of tourism promotion in the RDB says that Rwanda celebrates the World’s Migratory Bird Day because these birds migrate to Rwanda during the migratory period.

Statistically-based research shows that over 130 individual birds reach Rwanda during the migratory period.

Mukeshimana added that the celebration of the migratory birds day attracts more tourists and researchers from all-over the world.

These birds eat harmful insects thus contributing to the agricultural production and environment protection.

RDB officials affirm that Rwandan national parks host different specimen of unique birds.

The Nyungwe national park hosts a big number of the special birds that are unique in whole Africa.

The RDB has started a program consisting of inventorying the existing birds from the specimen threatened to disappear and protect them against an ultimate extinction.

The World’ Migratory Birds’ Day was launched in 2006 by the UN’s Organization for the protection of fauna and flora.

Rwanda celebrates the day for the fourth time since then.
