Rwanda National Police yesterday deported a Ugandan man wanted in his country in connection with murder. Musa Ariho Vimbi was handed over to Uganda Police Force at Gatuna border post. Vimbi, who hails from the south western district of Kabale, allegedly killed his brother last month apparently over family disputes, before fleeing to Rwanda.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Morris Muligo, the Deputy Commissioner for Criminal Investigation Department (CID), who handed over the suspect to the District Police Commander of Kabale, Supt. Dickens Bindeba, said Vimbi was arrested in Gatsibo District, where he was hiding. “We were contacted by our counterparts in Uganda that their citizen had killed his brother and was likely to be hiding in Rwanda,” ACP Muligo said.

“We launched investigations and found out that he crossed to Rwanda on May 30 and he was arrested in Gatsibo on June 6,” he added. “The arrest and handing over of the suspect, first falls in our mandate as police to fight crimes, but again in the existing good cooperation between the two police institutions which are detailed in the Memorandum of Understanding signed by both forces,” ACP Muligo noted.

The MoU between RNP and the Ugandan police details areas of cooperation including sharing of criminal information, joint training, operations and investigation, deployment of police attaché or liaison officer to facilitate implementation of the MoU including joint operations, exchange of fugitives and criminal suspects, sharing expertise and capacity building of police officers, among others.
