Hosts of the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), Rwanda have improved in the latest world football governing body rankings released on Thursday.
In the rankings released by the Federation International of Football Association (FIFA) in Zurich, Switzerland, Rwanda improved by six places to 85th in the world with 402 points.
Vincent Nzamwita, the Rwanda FA President told Xinhua in an interview that he is happy with the improvement of his team in the rankings and also their good show at the CHAN competition.
Rwanda reached the quarter final stage at the 2016 CHAN event which will climax with the finals on Sunday.
Uganda dropped by eight places to 70th with 503 points. The fall in position and points is attributed to the recent performance in CHAN competition where the Uganda Cranes failed to make it out of the group stage when they drew with Mali and Zimbabwe, and lost to Zambia.
Despite the fall, Uganda remained top in the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations region.
African champions Cote d’Ivoire, which remain the best ranked in the continent dropped by six places to 33, while Algeria and Ghana also dropped to 36th and 41st respectively.
Belgium maintained their top position, while Argentina are second and Spain third. World Cup champions Germany are in fourth place.
