Rwanda peacekeepers (Rwabatt3) serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA), on 22 September 2016 were decorated with UN Peacekeeping medals in recognition of exhibited professionalism, dedication and discipline in carrying out their duties. The medal parade ceremony was held at Rwanbatt3 Base Camp, SOCATEL M’Poko, in Bangui the Capital City of CAR.

The medals award ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Central African Republic and Deputy Head of the Mission, Mrs Diana CORNER.

In her remarks, the Guest of Honour commended the job well done by Rwabatt3 personnel during the last seven months or so in CAR.

“We are all extremely grateful for the work that is carried out around the clock, through which you have shown dedication, professionalism,
discipline, efficiency, and you have played an important role in the implementation of our mandate”, Mrs Corner said.

The Deputy Head of the UN Mission in CAR further hailed Rwanda peacekeepers for not having been involved in any case of sexual abuse and exploitation acts. “It is heart-breaking to see that those whom we are here to protect suffer as result of our actions”, the DSRSG pointed out.

In his welcome remarks, the Rwanbatt3 Commanding Officer, Lt Col
Claver Kirenga expressed gratitude to MINUSCA leadership for its continued support and guidance and to the Government of CAR and its citizens for their cooperation.

The Rwanbatt3 Commanding Officer further highlighted the main Unit achievements for the last six months served in MINUSCA that include

providing security to the Country’s Head of State, protection of civilians and key government installations.

Other dignitaries present at the event included the MINUSCA Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Jean Edeus Barau; the Chief of Staff of the Central African Army, Brig Gen Ludovic Ngaïfeï and the Bangui Joint Task Force Commander, Brig Gen MOUMOUNI ZANKARO.

The medal ceremony was marked by Rwanda Peacekeepers cultural dances and marshal art.
