This happened this Thursday at the Military camp of Kami where 850 soldiers and 140 police agents were gathered to be briefed before the flight to join the East Africa Standby Forces (EASF), a military unit specialized in security keeping and management in the EAC member countries. The Rwandan military unit will be deployed with heavy military equipment including tanks and other tools for heavy combat in case of necessity.
The Spokesperson of the RDF, Brig Gen Joseph Nzabamwita told media that Rwanda is committed to intervene in peace operations in where necessary as a member country of the EAC.
He said that the Head of State wishes Rwanda to keep participating into peace keeping operations. Brig Gen Joseph Nzabamwita affirmed that Rwanda has effective medical personnel that will enable it to bring the help anywhere necessary.
Dr. King Kayondo will be Chief of medical personnel of this team composed of 70 elements.
Rwanda is proud of being the first nation of the EAC to present its personnel and tools to the rest o f the world in to the EAC in particular for the EASF forthcoming missions.
Brig Gen Nzabamwita Joseph said that Rwanda cannot afford its security if the rest of the region is not secured as well.
Ambassador Shamfi Ismael who is the Chief Commander of the EASF lauded the efforts of RDF in the peace keeping operations conducted in different nations .
For him, this experience will enable it to effectively fulfill its missions in EASF.
EASF comprises nations such as Comoros, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda , Gjibouti, Sudan , Seychelles, Somalia, Ethiopia This brigade will be commanded by Brig Gen Kabisa Domitien from Burundi.
